Randomly select items with the Spinner app

Available for: Advanced and Pro plans on iOS/iPadOS, Android, and Web

With the Spinner app you can randomly select items from the built-in templates and your own lists.

Spinner basics

  • Select the center of the Spinner to spin the wheel. Select the Spinner again to get back to the list.
  • You can have up to 4 Spinners in your project.
  • You can have up to 50 items in your lists.

Note: Please make sure to complete your Promethean account first to access the Timer app.

Add Spinner app to your project

  1. From the Toolbar, select  Add Media.
  2. Select Engagement Apps.
  3. Select Spinner.

TIP: Once you add one Spinner, you can then select the + button on it to add another one.

Manually create an items list

The lists you create will appear in the list dropdown menu for you to select at any point.

  1. On the Spinner, select the list name to reveal the lists menu.
  2. Select Create List +.
  3. In the Name field, enter the name of your list.
  4. Enter the name for the items in the list and select Enter/Return or select the next field.
  5. Select + Add Item to add another field.
  6. Once you're ready, select Done.

Create a list from a CSV file

You can upload a CSV file with a list of items to create a list in a snap.

  1. On the Spinner, select the list name to reveal the lists menu.
  2. Select Create List +.
  3. From the top right-hand side, select Import.
  4. In the Name field, enter the name of your list.
  5. Drag and drop the CSV file onto the upload field or select Browse to manually select the file.
  6. Once it uploads, select Continue.
  7. Now, you can edit the list if you'd like. Once you're ready, select Done.

Customize your Spinner

On a Spinner, select  Settings. Here you can customize your Spinners' styles and settings.

Settings tab

  • Celebration - select the animation style that will display once an item is selected.
  • Sound - select the sound that will play once an item is selected.
  • Spin duration - amount of time in seconds it will take to select an item (0 to 6).
  • Display selection - set to ON if you'd like the selected item to be the only one displayed once selected.
  • Repeat selection - if set to ON it will allow previously selected items to be selected again.

Select the default color scheme for your Spinner. The most recently selected style will apply to new Spinners you add.

Access Spinner app directly in your browser

The Spinner app is also available as a standalone web app on the Promethean page. You can access it directly, if you'd like to use it outside Explain Everything.

  1. Head to one.prometheanworld.com.
  2. From the top right-hand corner, select Sign in.
  3. Select your preferred sign in method and use the email associated with your Explain Everything account.
  4. From the top left-hand corner select the Apps menu.
  5. Select Spinner.
