Available to: Education Group Account Admins, Education Group Account Owners
If you can’t share or don’t use emails in your organization, you can let students (and only them) register in Explain Everything without using them.
Ways to provide access that don’t require users' email
- Email-less registration via CODE — You’ll get a universal Device CODE that you can share with students. They’ll be able to create an account by providing only a username and password. No email required!
- Register licenses on iPads via MDM — If your organization uses iPads and an MDM solution, you can activate your licenses on devices. This way, users will be able to access Explain Everything without registering and if they decide to do so, they’ll be able to create their account with just a username and a password.
Tip: Before you invite people to your Group, check out what are the roles in Education Groups.

Email-less registration via CODE
You can distribute licenses for your Group by providing students with Device CODES. When used, these CODES only require the registrant to enter a username and a password to create an account.
- Sign into purchasing account’s Explain Drive.
- Select your profile picture in the top right-hand corner of the screen.
- From the menu, choose Account.
- Scroll down to the Manage devices section.
- Select Copy next to the Student accounts CODE.
- Send your users the Invite CODE you copied. Once they register, they’ll join your Group and a license will be taken from your Group’s Student license pool.
Tip If you’d like to make it easy for your users to register, make sure to also send them instructions on how to Join your Group with an Invite CODE.
Register accounts on iPads via MDM
With an MDM (Mobile Device Management) system you can assign your licenses to your organization’s iPads. This way, users of those iPads will be able to use the app without registering. If you choose to let them create their account, they’ll be able to register later by using their chosen username instead of an email.
Note An MDM configuration won’t let users access the Explain Drive features by default. If you’d like to let them have access to cloud projects and collaboration features, enable Allow users to create named accounts when generating the app configuration with AppConfig Generator or set EnableAccountCreation
to true
when you do it manually.
- In the Apps section of your MDM, search for and add the free Explain Everything Whiteboard app (not to be confused with the paid Explain Everything Basics app).
- Add the application and assign it to users in the same way you would with any other free application.
- Sign into purchasing account’s Explain Drive.
- Select your profile picture in the top right-hand corner of the screen.
- From the menu, choose Account.
- Scroll down to the Manage devices section
- Select Copy next to the Student accounts CODE.
- Insert the CODE into your configuration file. You can generate an app configuration file using the AppConfig Generator tool or build it manually.
- Enable Allow users to create named accounts when generating the app configuration or set
EnableAccountCreation
totrue
if you’re building it manually. - Push the configuration to your iPads.
Note Please remember that each time someone creates an account on an activated iPad, they’ll take their license with them. This means they’ll be able to access Explain Everything from other devices using their credentials, and if they sign out from the original iPad an additional license will be added to this device from your license pool.
