The Draw Tool lets you create customized drawings and comment on your ideas using your hand or a stylus pen. In this article you'll learn how to use the Draw Tool, change their size, color, and how to switch between pencil and pen style options.
Transform your ideas into creative illustrations or add commentary to convey your thoughts more clearly to your audience. To accentuate the content on your canvas, use the transparent Highlighter.
Draw Tool and Highlighter basics
- Drawings and annotations will stick to the underlying objects on the canvas by default.
- Switching between the Draw Tool, Highlighter or Eraser keeps your drawing on a single layer. As soon as you switch to a different tool or select Complete Drawing, the drawing will become an independent object. It can then be detached from the underlying layer and moved around the canvas.
- To erase drawings and annotations that haven't been completed yet, use the Erase Active Drawing mode of the Eraser.
The Highlighter acts a lot like the Draw Tool; however, its transparency has been automatically adjusted. Draw attention to selected sections of your project and mark them using vivid and translucent colors. Anytime you want to change its properties such as width or color, tap the Highlighter icon and switch between options.

- From the tool dock, select Style and Options.
- Here you can toggle between Pen and Pencil styles.
- If you select the Pencil style, you will also be able to set its grade to one right for your needs.
Fill the current drawing with color
- After you're done drawing the shape you want to fill with color and haven't changed the tool yet, select Draw Fill from the tool dock.
- Your drawing will be filled with color from the selected Color Picker and it will become a moveable object.
- You can change both the color of the fill and the stroke in the Color Picker.
Note Drawings created with the Pencil style can't be filled with the Draw Fill.
Tip Alternately, you can also use the Bucket Fill to fill already created drawings with color.
Complete the drawing without switching tools
- If you finished a drawing or an annotation (but you haven't changed tools yet) and you want it to be an independent object later, select Complete Drawing from the tool dock.
- The drawings you'll create from now on will be on a different layer than the one you just completed.
Tip Please keep in mind that although completed drawings will be independent, they may still stick to each other. If you're not sure if they're grouped or not, select them with the Hand Tool.
