The Camera Frame is an area that indicates which part of the canvas gets recorded or exported. Anything that you put within its borders will be visible on the video, picture or document you create.
Camera Frame basics
- By default, the Camera Frame is in Landscape orientation and has a 4:3 aspect ratio.
- You control the Camera Frame movement with Zoom and Pan.
- The Camera Frame will appear on the screen when you start recording, but only when its orientation or aspect ratio is different from your devices’ screen.
- You can move the Camera Frame independently from Zoom when you detach it with the Camera Frame toggle.
Change Camera Frame Orientation and Aspect Ratio
You can change the Camera Frame defaults in the Project Settings.
- Select the name of your project to open Project Settings.
- Choose Camera Frame Options.
- Here you can set:
- Frame orientation: portrait or landscape.
- Aspect ratio: 4:3, 16:9 or Custom (in the case of non-standard proportions of Android or Chromebook devices).
- Visibility of the Camera Frame when not recording.
Note If you change the Frame Aspect Ratio from Custom to 4:3 or 16:9 and save your project, you will not be able to change it back to Custom.
Detach the Camera Frame to move it independently from Zoom
You can move your camera frame independently from Zoom and Pan. This way you’re able to have more granular control over how it moves, create dynamic framing shifts, and make elements move into the shot.
Select the Camera Frame toggle from the control bar on the bottom of the screen.
You can now:
- Grab the Camera Frame by the Camera handle to move it around. If you start reaching the borders of your screen with the Camera Frame, it will pan your screen, too.
- Pinch its borders to zoom it in.
- Reverse-pinch to zoom it out. If you start reaching the borders of your screen with the Camera Frame, it will slowly zoom out your screen, too.
Precisely set and move only the Camera Frame
You can enter Precise Camera Frame mode to control only the movements of the camera. This way you’re able to focus only on framing your story or just getting that perfect shot.
- Toggle the Camera Frame from the control bar at the bottom of the screen.
- Select the Camera handle. All toolbars will disappear and you’ll gain access to new framing tools
- You can now grab corners of the Frame to precisely set its size and zoom level.
- Pinch and reverse anywhere to control the zoom level of the frame.
- Click and drag/swipe anywhere on the screen to move the camera.
At the bottom of the screen, there are 5 buttons that you can use while in Precise Camera Frame mode.
- Camera – will turn off Precise mode.
- Record – begins recording. Select again to stop recording.
- Camera Frame Options – lets you customize your camera frame.
- Zoom in – zooms you into your Camera Frame so that it fills up your screen.
- Help – opens this article :)
Select the camera handle again or tap/click anywhere to get back to the regular mode.
Show the Camera Frame when not recording
When you want to control the camera frame just with Zoom, but need to make it visible at all times, you can do so. This way if the Camera Frame aspect ratio or orientation is different from your screen's, you’ll be able to see it even when you’re not recording.
- Select the name of your project to open Project Settings.
- Choose Camera Frame Options
- Enable Always show camera frame.
