When you press the Record Button at the bottom of the screen, the area indicated by the camera frame will be captured along with your voice. Select the button again to stop the recording.
Now you can edit your recording to achieve the desired effect. When it comes to recordings, you have the option of adding layers, overwriting parts of your video, and also inserting other videos into your timeline.
Types of recording modes in Explain Everything
MIX: Layer recordings with Mix mode
Mix mode lets you do separate takes for voice and animations or add layers of animation or camera control so you don't have to do everything all at once. It will cause new recordings to create new clips along already existing clips in the video and audio tracks. This is the default recording mode.
TIP To avoid overlapping your voice, make sure to mute your microphone when doing takes that don't require your narration.
OVR: Redo your video with Overwrite mode
Overwrite mode lets you redo a recording from a certain point in time so you don't have to start from scratch. It will replace all existing clips in unlocked tracks after the current time. You'll need to confirm the recording each time you start in this mode, as it removes the content after the current time entirely.
TIP You don't necessarily have to use Overwrite to change your recording. You can delete or clear segments of the Timeline with editing tools. Learn more about Timeline editing.
INS: Expand a recording at a certain time with Insert mode
Insert mode adds a recording at a certain point in time. This way, if you're missing something in the middle of your recording, you can scroll back to that point on your timeline and expand on it. The remaining part of your recording will remain the same.
Note INS: Insert recording mode isn't available on the web version of Explain Everything at the moment. Learn more about the differences between versions of Explain Everything.
Set a recording mode
Once your initial recording is done, you can switch between recording modes to choose how recording will happen if you start again.
